GENEALOGICAL AND

CEMETERY RESEARCH

The Holmes County Historical Society has a collection that includes various hereditary and patriotic society publications, transcripts of various Holmes  County church and cemetery records, special census records, newspaper abstracts, city directories, compiled family histories, family group sheets and historical works.

The Historical Society’s Genealogical Library collects and makes available books, records, and materials of local historical significance to the people of Holmes County with a particular emphasis on genealogy.

Through cooperation with the County Public Library in Bonifay, the Historical Society strives to be a resource to those area residents that have a desire to learn more about their family lineage and heredity.

Cemeteries are important historical assets that tell about a community’s past; they are monuments to the people who once lived in our communities.

In this rapidly changing world of increased development and land purchases it is more important than ever for  Floridians to research, find, document, photograph, map and protect family and local cemeteries.

HCHS offers programs and educational resources to help individuals and organizations in their efforts to document and preserve cemeteries.
