A New Vision for a New Era.... History within Reach.

This will be focus of the Holmes County Historical Society. Taking History to the streets of Holmes County and making accessible to the communities of our great vast county.

Through this focus, Society leadership will work to make the exhibits within the museum hands on and will work to make a visit to the museum an ongoing learning experience.

Such efforts will result in providing visitors contact with Holmes County History in ways that will be interactive, educational and interpretive.

Realizing that the HCHS is not limited to the displays and programs of the museum, leadership will work to make History within reach by providing programs and displays throughout Holmes County, visiting and speaking at local organizational meetings, and participating in community events to promote the programs and events of the Holmes County Historical Society.

History is not just about dates, names, and places.   Preservation isn’t just about bricks and mortar. Both   are about relationships…about relationships between individuals and their communities that stretch from the past through the present to the future.

The mission of the Holmes County Historical Society is  to bring together those people interested in history, specifically in the history of Holmes County.

With Holmes County’s diverse and rural communities it is crucial that the history of our county and region be demonstrated and communicated to all of its residents in ways that are informative, interactive and interpretive, to preserve and communicate the history of the Holmes County area.

Through programs, events and preservation this can be accomplished with minimal effort to make History within Reach of all residents.
